A considered approach to country house interior design
For over three decades we have created the interiors of exceptional country houses across England — homes that balance the character of heritage architecture with the comfort of modern country living. Whether the brief calls for a faithful English country house interior or a lighter, more contemporary country scheme, our designers work hand in glove with our in-house residential architects and construction managers so that every element — from spatial planning to the final furnishing — is resolved as one. Country house interior design, answered
What is English country house interior design?
A style that blends heritage architecture — panelling, cornicing, period proportion — with the comfort and practicality of modern country living. Janine Stone designs both faithful English country house interiors and lighter, contemporary country schemes.
Which regions do you work in?
We design country houses across the Cotswolds, Hampshire, Gloucestershire, Surrey, Oxfordshire and the wider Home Counties, as well as estates further afield in the UK and internationally.
Do you handle architecture and building work as well as interiors?
Yes. Interior design, residential architecture and construction management are delivered under one roof, so a country house project is coordinated from first sketch to final furnishing.
How much does country house interior design cost?
Every country house is bespoke, so costs vary with the scale of works, the level of finish and how much architecture and construction is involved. We provide a clear, open-book cost framework early on, so you understand the investment before committing.
How long does a country house renovation take?
A full country house renovation typically runs from 12 to 24 months or more, depending on the size of the house and the extent of structural, heritage and planning work. We set a realistic programme at the outset and manage it through to completion.
Can you work on listed country houses and period properties?
Yes. Much of our country work involves Grade I and Grade II listed houses and Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian period properties, with our architects handling listed-building consent and conservation requirements.
What is the difference between English and modern country house interiors?
English country house interiors lean on layered fabrics, antiques and panelling; modern country house design keeps the warmth and craftsmanship but pares the palette back for a cleaner, contemporary feel. We design both.
Planning a country house project?
Whether you are buying, restoring or building, we would be glad to discuss how we can help create an exceptional country home.
