Case Study: Country House Reinvented
Project Overview
This significant early 20th-century country house, situated in the heart of the English countryside, has been transformed from a classic residence into a jewel box of contemporary design, sumptuous comfort, and refined detail. The property owners—successful entrepreneurs with a passion for art—commissioned Janine Stone & Co. to deliver a scheme that would radically depart from traditional expectations of a country house interior.
Our Role
Bringing together our full suite of services—architecture, interior design, construction, and project management—we oversaw every stage of the project. A dedicated team of architects, designers, artisans, and craftsmen worked to realise a bold new vision that placed art and elegance at the centre of the home.
Design Vision
The design takes inspiration from the timeless glamour of the 1930s and 1940s. A dramatic palette of ebony, claret, and jewel tones, offset with bone and alabaster, defines the interiors. Works of art—referencing the drama of Caravaggio and the humanity of the Renaissance—anchor the decorative scheme, ensuring the house reflects both the owners’ tastes and its own architectural character.
Craftsmanship & Detail
Every detail was bespoke. Artisans created one-of-a-kind furniture pieces and architectural features, using rare veneers such as snake wood, layered with lacquer and polished with fine waxes. Mitred joinery, stonework, and mirrored surfaces contributed to a seamless and elegant flow. The result is a sophisticated blend of modernity and classicism, brimming with confidence.
