Award Winning Garden Design
In 2014 our good friend Luciano Giubille won the Best in Show Award for designing The Laurent Perrier garden at RHS Chelsea. Speaking with him in the lead-up to this year’s show (May 24-28), we discussed what it takes to design a winning garden.
“Patience, passion and love are what counts, even if your garden is just a single pot” says Luciano.
Influenced heavily by the Italian tradition of geometrically designed gardens, he never thought entering a flower show would be for him. However with a desire to improve his knowledge he spent five years working alongside horticultural students in the garden of the late, great Christopher Lloyd. Provided with a humble patch of land he learnt what subtle impacts the seasons made for plants, acquiring knowledge that would later prove a major influence on his 2014 winning design.
Whilst Chelsea is about glamour, the most challenging sites are not the ones “with rolling acres but rather the confined city spaces in which every detail can be seen”. Indeed as designers ourselves, we are proud to collaborate with the likes of Luciano in serving our clientele.
