An Apartment Transformed
Before & After
A common design challenge of many of London’s period properties are the thick walls, which consume valuable space internally and usually reduce the amount of natural light that reaches the depths of the main living spaces. Strict building and fire regulations, often limit the designer’s options forcing them to apply all their creativity in finding a solution that meets the regulations, whilst providing the client with the space they want.
The above before and after image demonstrates an elegant solution to creating a light and airy interior in a period property in London, which originally featured deep walls around the staircase that very much reduced the sense of light and space in our client’s home. In this recent project, the installation of a dramatic Crittall© glazed wall that opens from the staircase has created a striking ‘open’ hallway that makes this space feel significantly bigger and brighter.
