Step Two: Seeking Inspiration and Direction

Commissioning Janine Stone & Co.

“Great art from different countries and cultures inspires and fires my imagination.”

In this series of posts we take a look at the steps involved in commissioning Janine Stone & Co. as your architect, interior designer and/or build project manager. These steps are a guideline to the process that our clients experience when working with us.  Every design journey is different though and individually tailored to clients’ desires.

Step Two: Seeking Inspiration and Direction

Having received the brief (step one) there is now a process of establishing the direction of the design. Inspiration is drawn from many sources be they from historical references, places in time, or distillations of ideas and cultural touch points.  The desires and aspirations a client has, will always direct the process.

In my case I am happy to declare my love of the classical, recreated from a contemporary viewpoint. The term classical is sometimes misunderstood as something from the past, when in fact it provides ample opportunity to include the contemporary. Something as simple as combining modern furniture with classical architecture can create a sublime impact upon the senses. Each generation has interpreted classical ideas differently, only to call such interior design contemporary. This has been going on for decades and centuries in order to create enduring interiors that accommodate modern lifestyles and tastes.
