Step Four: Searching Out & Selecting Materials

Commissioning Janine Stone & Co.

“As far as finding the best possible materials for a project is concerned, the world is our oyster. All that is needed is an intimate knowledge of where to look and the determination to find them.”

In this series of posts we take a look at the steps involved in commissioning Janine Stone & Co. as your architect, interior designer and/or build project manager. These steps are a guideline to the process that our clients experience when working with us.

Step Four: Searching Out & Selecting Materials

The months of discussion and development are over. You’ve decided on the direction and scope of work. Budgets planned, and the designs agreed. It’s now time to journey to the interior. Whilst the team in the studio are busy converting perspective illustrations and CGIs into precise technical drawings, this is when Janine and the lead designers start searching out the materials in earnest. Typically, we will voyage across Europe, America and beyond; perhaps in a search for a distinctive extract of marble, style of woodcarving or sculpture. Sometimes clients join us on our travels. It’s about much more than taking a pleasant trip abroad, it’s about discovering an Aladdin’s’ cave of ideas and inspiration. For clients it’s about experiencing the project from another perspective, that adds a very special quality to the finished result.
